Your tour will start when you arrive in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, a resplendent city and so called Pink City. Following a warm welcome, you will embark on an exploration adventure starting at your leisurely stroll through lively markets of Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar to a colorful textile, hand-made jewelry, and fragrant spices. Watch the evening illuminate one of the most gorgeous white marble temples called Birla Mandir in the evening. When the sun sets, head towards Nahargarh Fort, on the highest point in the city and enjoy the panoramic view of a glowing skyline in Jaipur.
The day starts with the visit of spectacular Amber Fort with an impressive view of the Maota Lake. Take a jeep ride up the ramparts and visit the decorated halls, rooms of mirrors and dazzling courtyards of this fort. Next, stop at Jal Mahal, Water Palace; the photographic stop in the beautiful lake. Move on to the core of the city to visit the vast City Palace that is a beautiful mix of the Mughal and Rajasthani styles. Next to it is Jantar Mantar, a marvel of astronomy with the largest sundial in the world made out of stone.
After breakfast, start toward the Blue City of Jodhpur. When the scenery changes to hues of blue painted houses as well as dried-out land to the pink sandstone, you will experience the entry into the Marwar culture. After reaching there, relax a little at the local bazaars around the Clock Tower and notice the traders selling anything and everything such as antiques to spices and embroidered fabrics. The air is vibrant, and the smells of street food and the metallic clanging of daily trade greet you into the Jodhpur-beat.
Visit Mehrangarh Fort in the morning, an architectural giant that tops the skyline. The walls stand tall above the city and connect generations of royalty that live in the well-maintained courtyards, armory and palaces such as Phool Mahal and Sheesh Mahal. Look down and be able to see a stunning view of the houses which are blue in hue, through the ramparts of the fort. Close by, you would get Jaswant Thadawhich is a serene white marble memorial located at the edge of a small water body where the royal cenotaphs and carvings have stories to tell of honor and of courage. To end the day in a royal style, visit Umaid Bhawan Palace, a magnificent 20 th century marvel built on the confluence of Indian and Art Deco design, with its part still preserved by the royal family
Move into the Thar Desert today further west and land up at Jaisalmer, the land of glorious legends (also called the Golden City). The whole city was constructed of yellow sandstone and it shines with the sunlight of the desert. When you reach the place, you may have a relaxing stroll around the Gadisar Lake that was the primary source of water in the city, and remains as a beautiful reprieve. Artistically sculptured temples, chhatris, and ghats surround the lake that makes it a perfect place to reduce some stress and then plunge into the golden sands of tomorrow.
Start with Jaisalmer Fort, a living fort that had people, shops and temples still living within the walls of that old fort. The meandering streets of the fort show centuries of history with their wonderfully carved Jain temples and their ancient merchant homes. Once you come out of the fort, you should pay a visit to the magnificent havelis of Jaisalmer, patronized by people of business families in Jaisalmer, Patwon Ki Haveli and Salim Singh Ki Haveli, which are decorated with lattices, balconies and archway which gives reflection of the craft works of those times.
It is time to leave Golden City after breakfast. Provided time is available, you can engage in last minute souvenir purchase or be part of a stroll around the calm backstreets before travelling to railway station or airport in order to proceed with your journey. When you part company with the golden sands and brilliant colors of Rajasthan, may the memories of great forts, clear skies with many stars by night and the great hospitality of Chetram Holidays stay with you.
