The one day tour to Jaipur begins with the visit to Amber Fort, the most famous hill fort of Jaipur. Lying just short of the city, this stunning fort is an awe-inspiring mix of Hindu and Mughal architecture. Walk through its gigantic courtyards, giant gateways, and the breathtaklingly beautiful Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace). Take an optional jeep or elephant to climb to the fort and enjoy the vista of the Aravalli hills and Maota Lake below from the top.
On the return journey to Jaipur city, stop during the return journey and admire Jal Mahal, the stunning Water Palace that appears as if floating by magic on Man Sagar Lake. Although an entry inside is not feasible, the approach area is great for a short walk, scenic photos, and relishing the serene beauty of Jaipur old.
Afternoon: Palaces and Science
Make way deeper into city center to pay a visit to the City Palace, a picturesque complex that's still inhabited by the Jaipur royal family. The architecture is a blend of Rajasthani and Mughal here, with beautifully embellished gateways, museum galleries, and calm courtyards. The showstoppers are the Chandra Mahal and Mubarak Mahal here, which keep costumes, weapons, and royal mementos.
Not far from here is the Jantar Mantar, the lovely observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh II. It is a UNSECO Heritage site and boasts the world's largest stone sundial as well as a variety of other scientific instruments still accurate today. It is a good place to go for science enthusiasts and architecture fans alike.
Lunch Break: Unwinding rest at a local Rajasthani restaurant (optional add-on), to sample indigenous food such as dal baati churma, ker sangri, or gatte ki sabzi.
Evening: Mythical Vistas & Bazaars
Explore the iconic Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), the most photographed Jaipur symbol, in the afternoon after lunch. The 953 exterior framework's small windows or jharokhas were designed so that palace women could watch city street life without themselves being seen. You can go up to the top for an overview from above from the roof over the chaotic streets below and the city's beating heart.
As the sun sets, it is time to visit Jaipur's vibrant local bazaars. Visit Johari Bazaar for beautiful gemstones and traditional Kundan jewelry, Bapu Bazaar for quilts, clothing, and block-printed items, or Tripolia Bazaar for brassware and mementos. Your guide will be able to help you identify genuine shops and avoid tourist trap shops that charge too much.
End your day at a masala chai or one of those old-style sweet snacks such as the ghewar or mishri mawa, the most suitable way to bid goodnight to the Pink City.
