One of the highly sought pilgrimages for Hindus is the Char Dham Yatra, which includes four sacred shrines located in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Yamunotri and Gangotri are the shrines of Goddess Yamuna and Goddess Ganga, respectively, while Kedarnath is the shrine of Lord Shiva, and Badrinath is devoted to Lord Vishnu. In addition to holy blessings, this spiritual expedition grants stunning views of the Himalayan region. Book your Char Dham Yatra Package from Delhi with Travel People India for a hassle-free and remarkable pilgrimage. Fly into Delhi airport or railhead and head 6-7 hrs by road with the representative of Chetram Holidays into Uttarakhand's foothills via the Uttar Pradesh plains to Haridwar. Go to a comfortable hotel (such as Hotel Ganga Lahari), wash and go to the divine Ganga Aarti at Har ki Pauri Ghat (~6:30 PM) and put a diya in the river ( 50-100). There are cable cars ( 100-150) up to the Mansa Devi Temple, should you have the time, or a market selling rudraksha beads, ghat-side. Have dinner (aloo puri or kheer) at the hotel and stay overnight in preparation for the yatra; bring a light jacket as it gets cold in the evening.
After a filling breakfast (poha or paratha), proceed by car 6-7 hours to Barkot, through Dehradun and Mussoorie, with views of the Shivalik hills. Make a 30-45 min stop at Kempty Falls to take pictures or ride your feet (bring a change of clothes). Get into a comfortable hotel or camp at Barkot (such as Camp Nirvana), the base of Yamunotri, and rest beside the Yamuna River or shop in the nearby market for woollen shawls. Have a hot vegetarian dinner (dal-chawal or roti-sabzi) and sleep over, getting ready to go on the trek; carry trekking shoes and a water bottle.
Wake up early, make breakfast, and drive 36 km to Janki Chatti, the base of the 6 km Yamunotri trek (3-4 hrs one way). Hire a pony or palki ( 1500-3000, own expense) when necessary and walk up to Yamunotri Temple to seek the blessings of Goddess Yamuna. Relax in the hot springs at Jamunabai Kund and get the stunning mountain views. Retrace your steps to Janki Chatti, then by road to Barkot and spend the evening with a vegetarian dinner (do try kheer). Stay overnight, resting after the journey; take a raincoat in case of showers.
After breakfast, take a 4-5 hour drive to Uttarkashi, a holy township on the Bhagirathi River. You can check into a hotel (such as Hotel Shivlinga) and pay a visit to Kashi Vishwanath Temple to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva, and then visit the calm Prakateshwar Mahadev Temple. Walk along the river or buy copper puja products in the marketplace. Have vegetarian dinner (rajma-chawal or stuffed paratha) and sleep over, getting ready to Gangotri; carry a flashlight to use in the evening.
Early breakfast followed by a 3-4 hour drive to Gangotri, the source of the Ganga. Have a cleansing bath in the freezing river (take warm clothes), pray at Gangotri Temple, which is devoted to Goddess Ganga, and visit nearby places, such as the submerged Shivling (in winter only) or Pandav Gufa. Pack snacks or local Maggi, have them by the river, and drive back to Uttarkashi. Enjoy a veggie dinner (gobi masala or roti) and sleep over, enjoying the heavenly atmosphere.
After breakfast, begin the 8-9 hour drive to Guptkashi, a religious centre on the way to Kedarnath, via rough Himalayan territory. Reserve a room in a hotel (such as Hotel Shivalik Valley) and go to see the peculiar Ardh Narishwar Temple, which symbolises the unity of Lord Shiva and Parvati. In this case, you should visit Omkareshwar Temple, which is associated with the winter ceremonies of Kedarnath. Have a vegetarian dinner (paneer butter masala or khichdi) and sleep, as you must be psychologically prepared to Kedarnath; charge your phone to take pictures.
Wake up early, eat breakfast, and travel 30 km to Sonprayag, then hire a local jeep (5-100) to Gaurikund (5 km). Walk 16 km (6-8 hrs) to Kedarnath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, or hire a pony/palki/ helicopter ( 7000-12000, individual expenses) from Phata/Sirsi. Pray to the Shiva lingam, visit the evening aarti, and absorb the mystic atmosphere. Overnight in a simple guest house/camp (dormitory-style, no meals; bring snacks such as energy bars); be prepared with warm clothes as it can get very cold at night.
Have morning prayers and a light breakfast (tea and biscuits) and then trek back to Gaurikund, 16 km (4-6 hrs), or fly by helicopter to Phata/Sirsi. Drive to Guptkashi, check into your hotel, and rest after the tedious drive. Visit the local market (with herbal teas or other souvenirs, optional). Have a filling vegetarian dinner (pumpkin sabzi or roti) and sleep over, regaining the lost energy of the pilgrimage; have a hot shower to soothe the aching muscles.
After breakfast, take a 7-8 hour drive to Badrinath, through Joshimath, and be amazed by the Alaknanda River. Then check into a hotel (such as Hotel Narayan Palace), dip in the Taptkund hot spring, and witness the evening aarti at Badrinath Temple to seek the blessings of Lord Vishnu. If you have time, visit Mana Village, Vyas Gufa, or Bhim Pul to witness some of the culture. Enjoy a vegetarian meal (dal makhani or roti) and stay overnight experiencing the divine energy; remember to carry ID to enter the temple.
After morning darshan and breakfast, drive to Rudraprayag via Joshimath. En route with Chetram Holidays, visit Narsingh Temple in Joshimath and the confluence of rivers at Vishnuprayag, Karnprayag, or Nandprayag. Check into your hotel in Rudraprayag, have dinner, and rest overnight.
